In March 1992, Dan and Claire Marino established The Dan Marino Foundation
to raise money for various children's charities in South Florida.
The Dan Marino Foundation is a non-profit organization supporting programs,
which provide integrated intervention services for children with special needs -
medical, emotional and/or behavioral. Through the generous support of public and
private donations and special events The Dan Marino Foundation has distributed over
$4,000,000.

In 1995, Dan and Claire Marino met with Dr. Roberto Tuchman
to discuss how The Dan Marino Foundation could help enhance the services presently available to families
whose children have special needs. Through the Marinos’ quest to find the
best care for their son Michael, they realized the need for a comprehensive medical
center for children with special needs.

In 1998, the Miami Children’s Hospital-Dan Marino Center in Weston, Florida
opened. It offers comprehensive health care to children with chronic medical needs.
The Dan Marino Center has provided evaluation and treatment for children with special
needs. The center has provided neurological and developmental services for children
in South Florida and South America.

Dan also helped establish the first online television channel
dedicated to helping children with special needs, ChildNett.tv
In 1998, Dan was given the Sprint/NFL Man of The Year Award. It is the only league-sponsored
award that recognizes player community service as well as excellence on the field.
